Beekeeping is an expensive venture!
Supplies alone to start a hive can run from $300-$600. Bees do not overwinter well in our area, which means purchasing new "packages" each year. A package runs about $115. Why bother? Because bees cannot survive in the wild. Without the hive management provided by a beekeeper, they cannot combat the diseases and parasites that plague them. Without bees, and the pollination they provide - the foods we eat, and the foods that are eaten by the things we eat could no longer grow. Food production would collapse. It is imperative that the public be aware of the risks to our bee population and support measures to protect them. Support your local beekeepers. Yes, their honey may be more expensive than industrially produced honey, but their bees are integral to your local ecology, as well as economy! The Drone’s Prayer
