| The Nitty Gritty from the City:
In Spokane, you can have "three of the same kind of fowl or animals," said John Henry, administrative supervisor for code enforcement with the city of Spokane, adding that "you can only keep the babies up to four months old." Henry advised to call the city's zoning department with specific questions.
Rules are simple in the Spokane Valley, where animal raising and/or keeping is prohibited within the city limits, unless the animals existed on the property at the time of the city's incorporation.
In Coeur d'Alene rules vary yet again. Kathy Lewis, deputy city clerk for Coeur d'Alene, said "In the city of Coeur d'Alene you are allowed to have chickens. As long as they don't create odor, or disturb the peace, and they are properly contained, there's no limit on the number of chickens you can have. The owner must remove the excrement so the odor ordinance isn't violated." City code prohibits owning any fowl that cries, whines or crows.
