Our farm specializes in Speckled Sussex, Cream Brabanter, and Ameraucana chickens (but we keep a wide variety of others for fun!) We are staunch supporters of the Backyard Poultry Movement. Not long ago, it wasn't unusual to find a coop in many backyards. Today 97% of eggs in the US are produced industrially...leaving only 3% of our chickens in a happy, healthy environment.
Industrial production has led not only to a decline in egg and environmental quality, but has also had a devastating effect on the natural genetics in chickens, and impacted the availability of a number of heritage breeds.
Chicks and Laying Hens available now!
If you are interested in purchasing chicks, chickens, roosters, feathers, chicken pelts, fertile eggs for incubating, eggs for eating, or blown for crafts, send us a note and we'll see how we can help!
We do not ship live birds, they must be picked up from the farm. We can ship fertile eggs, however. Coeur d'Alene is a beautiful destination...treat yourself to a visit!

Free-Range vs. Commercial Eggs Nutritional Analysis
"Most of the eggs currently sold in supermarkets are nutritionally inferior to eggs produced by hens raised on pasture. That’s the conclusion we have reached following completion of the 2007 Mother Earth News egg testing project..." The Egg & Chicken Industry

Barry has compiled a great deal of information on poultry. If you like birds, you'll visit this site again and again. This will take you directly to chicken breeds - but don't stop there...look around, there's more!
Mother Earth News - Save the chickens Very informative article on many aspects of poultry raising and poultry production. A good read! |
Hand-Raised and Hen-Raised Chicks
We offer chicks naturally incubated by a hen. Just like human babies hear within the womb, chicks hear from inside
the egg. The hen "talks" to her eggs, bringing a happy hatch,
and then raises her chicks, teaching them all that chickens
should know. If circumstances prevent the hen from raising
her chicks, a surrogate steps in to love them in her place.
If you would like to hatch rare breeds, without using artificial incubation, try a Silkie (a breed of chicken.) They love to brood!
We are expecting a hatch of naturally nested
Silkie chicks in September...
Prize-Winning Eggs
Healthy, happy, free-ranging chickens lay the best eggs.
